LoCA 5: Labor, Life, Leaving
by Aimee Rickman
One month ago, Champaign-Urbana gave up the fight, resigning itself to beige-grey landscapes, to multiple pant layers and sleeping bag coats as daily fashion, to cravings for all foods mashed or fried, to darkness, to isolation, to couches, to the icy grip of the slow-bleed long-death that is winter.
Now, our cold hearted town thaws as the sun finds a way to finally break through grey clouds, as neighbors once again venture out-of-doors to cautiously linger and greet, as graduation gown orders are placed, as May Day and International Workers’ Day summon thoughts of flowers and dances, of war protests and collaborative spirits that sacrificed their bodies for grandchildren’s eight hour work days and weekends.
This month, Lost Control Again returns again to the sincere to center in upon visceral May themes of labor, life, and leaving, featuring the writing of Rose Ferrara, Casey Malone, Mandy Tröger, William Wood, and Dan Yezbick, with pieces sculpted together with exacting scientific librariosity by Rebecca Bobecca.
Read. Enjoy. Comment. Discuss. Pass on.
And fire up, eh? We made it. You are alive.
See you 'round the Maypole and in the streets.
*Next month's LoCA theme: green, growth, governmentality*
